[edit] Immigrant/refugee organization
Scenario: A nonprofit organization serving recently arrived refugees and immigrants from Somalia wants to create more opportunities for interaction with and integration into the larger Portland metropolitan community. For example, some individuals would like practice speaking English with native speakers. Students need tutoring help. The organization also wants to create possibilities for sharing Somali culture with other community members. The organization wants to identify existing community groups within the area that would likely make good partners for its plan.
Assignment: Create a plan to work with existing organizations to involve their members in activities with Somali refugees and immigrants, including practice speaking English and homework tutoring. What social media tools could be helpful in identifying the organizations, connecting with their members, and sharing cultures?
Example Organizations: IRCO, esp. Africa House, African Women's Coalition, Northwest Somali Community Organization, Somali Women's Association, Somali Community Services Coalition of Oregon
