Emil Fries Piano Hospital and Training Center in Vancouver WA used a $100,000 grant from Meyer Memorial Trust in 2006 to support its School of Piano Technology for the Blind program that trains students from the Washington State School for the Blind and others in piano tuning and technology. Using their acute hearing, an inherent strength, all the programs graduates have successful careers in the piano service industry, while more than 60% of blind adults are unemployed. Students pictured above came from Washington, Colorado, Pennsylvania and Haiti to attend the only school of its kind in the world. Photo credit: Julia Liudahl
